FISHING

“The Fishing part of the Tournament will take place on 30th & 31st March with the Calcutta taking place on the 29th March 2012. There will be a maximum of 4 anglers to each vessel and a maximum of 40 vessels. Each team will utilize their varying degrees of skill and luck in order to catch the “catch of the day”. This event will specialize in species of Mahi-mahi, Tuna, and Wahoo.

There will be cash prizes awarded both days for the heaviest fish caught,  as well as overall cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place finishers based on most poundage of fish caught. 20% of overall proceeds from event as well as 20% of cash prizes awarded will be donated to charity.”

Fish:

Mahi-mahi

Commonly known as the Dolphin-Fish. 

  • Surface-dwelling ray-finned fish found in off-shore temperate, tropical and subtropical waters worldwide. 
  • Mahi-mahi means “very strong” in Hawaiian. 

Tuna

Tuna are fast swimmers, and some species are capable of speeds of 44 mph (70 km/h). 

  • While most species of fish have white flesh, the tuna has muscle tissue ranging from pink to deep red. 
  • Some species of tuna display warm-blooded adaptations which allow them to survive in colder climates 
  • The word tuna comes from the Spanish word atún. 

Wahoo

Found in tropical and sub-tropical seas  

  • Its speed and high quality flesh makes it a prize game fish 
  • In Hawaii it is known as Ono 
  • Not to be confused with the barracuda which has bigger scales and teeth

1st Prize ($5,000), 2nd Prize ($3,000), 3rd Prize ($2,000) All participants will receive goodie bags.
